It is a matter of immense pleasure and privilege to serve in the capacity of Vice-Chancellor. Under the dynamic leadership of predecessor Vice-Chancellors, the state of Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a quantum leap in food productivity and production through agro-climate-based, location-specific research strategies covering cereals, pulses, oilseeds, and major and minor millets. The contribution through a wide range of technological interventions in developing new varieties and transforming Andhra Pradesh into the “Rice Bowl of India” has been phenomenal.


India has 4% of the world's water resources while occupying only 2.5% of the world's land area, yet it supports 18% of the global population. Rapid urbanization, population growth, changing food consumption patterns, land-use changes, and climate change pose significant challenges to water availability and food production. According to international norms, countries with per capita water availability below 1,700 m³ per year are categorized as water-stressed. With a per capita availability of around 1,400 m³ per year, India is already water-stressed, and studies project this will decline to 1,191 m³ per year by 2050, potentially making the country water-scarce. Keeping this in view, efforts are focused on achieving sustainable development goals through engineering and agronomic interventions to improve water-use efficiency and enhance crop productivity through biotechnological innovations.


"Enter to learn and leave to serve" is the guiding principle that inspires the institution to prepare students to meet global challenges through quality education supported by ethical and moral values. The faculty members are highly qualified and nationally recognized, continuously enhancing a student-centric learning environment through innovative teaching methods. Experiential learning and practical exposure help nurture entrepreneurship and professional excellence among students.


The institution's threefold mandate of teaching, research, and extension remains the foundation of its success, reflected in the outstanding achievements of students in national-level competitive examinations and academic excellence. Faculty members emphasize both basic and applied sciences while addressing real-world agricultural challenges and developing students' problem-solving skills with a strong focus on farmers' needs.


Continuous efforts are being made to strengthen infrastructure, establish collaborations with reputed national and international institutions, and enhance expertise in emerging areas such as Nanotechnology, Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. These initiatives aim to address modern agricultural challenges, improve farmers' livelihoods, and promote sustainable farming systems through advanced research and innovation.
